Assessed against International Standards of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, our manufacturing processes deliver quality, high-level service and products, while reducing our impact.
The use of solar panels attached to our key factory locations also means that your favorite acoustic products, including our FilaSorb™ felt and QuietBack™ carpet tiles, are generated using around 30-40% onsite renewables – powered by the sun.
To support green building projects and material transparency, we offer environmental labels across our products. Our environmental label certifications indicate that our products are safe for people and the planet, and can be used to qualify toward green building ratings.
To deliver on our mission, 2023 will mark the base year for our carbon footprint, conducted across all areas of the global business. This will help us to set goals for the future, measure and benchmark effectively.
A minimum of 60% recycled PET is used in our FilaSorb™ panels, and a minimum of 80% is used in the backing of our QuietBack™ carpet tiles. The recycled PET is sourced from bottles that would normally go to landfill, closing the loop on a valuable resource.
Acoufelt’s QuietBack™ carpet tiles and FilaSorb™ collections are all made from post consumer recycled plastic drink bottles, diverted from landfill.
The discarded drink bottles are cleaned and cut into flakes before being melted and extruded into fibers of natural white color.
The regenerated fibers are clean and odorless like virgin fibers.
The regenerated fibers are then colored or printed and used to construct brand new products like carpet tiles, panels and baffles.

The face pile layer of our BarrierBack™ carpet tiles are made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon fibres.
ECONYL® fibres are sourced from waste such as fishing nets, fabric, carpet flooring and other industrial plastics, which is rescued from seas and landfill, and then regenerated into carpet and textile yarn of original purity.

We know material safety and transparency is important for green building teams, so we ensure we have environmental labels to support our claims that Acoufelt products are safe for humans and the planet. Moreover, we’re seeking to achieve additional third-party verification for our Declare ‘Red List Free’ Labels, as well as working toward offering a suite of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for our most popular products.

Declare® provides a free and simple database and transparency labels, to help project teams choose the healthiest products on the market and meet the stringent materials requirements of the Living Building Challenge® (LBC), the world’s most rigorous building performance standard.
The LBC Red List represents the “worst in class” substances, prevalent in the building products industry, known to pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem. These substances should be phased out of production due to human and/or environmental health and toxicity concerns.
Acoufelt QuietBack™ carpet tiles, WoodBeQuiet™ planks and FilaSorb™ collections have received “LBC Red List Free” declaration status – having disclosed 100% of product ingredients at or above 100 ppm (0.01%) in the final product and not containing any Red List chemicals. They have been shown to meet the requirements of the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List and Healthy Interior Performance Imperatives.
Moreover, we’ve used a third-party assessor to verify the accuracy of our Declare label claims for our QuietBack™ carpet tiles and FilaSorb™ panels. As of current, these are the only Australian-registered third party verified (3PV) Declare labels in the entire market.
SCS is an international leader in third-party certification and standards development in environmental, sustainability and quality performance. Our customers can be assured that products labelled with the SCS certification marks are consistently meeting the performance requirements of this standard.
Acoufelt FilaSorb™ products receive Indoor Advantage Gold certification for Indoor Air Quality. The Indoor Advantage and Indoor Advantage Gold standard aligns with both ANSI/BIFMA M7 and X7.1, and CA 01350. It is recognised by the EPA and GSA, and qualifies for many building rating systems, including LEED v4, BREEAM, WELL Building and Living Building Challenge.
FilaSorb™ products achieve Indoor Advantage Gold certification through meeting the high standard for California Department of Public Health (CDPH) compliance, determined by comparing the calculated emission concentration or emission factor to the applicable Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emission criteria.
CRI’s Green Label program tests carpet, cushions and adhesives to help specifiers identify products with low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emissions. The CRI Green Label Plus logo indicates a product has been tested and certified by an independent laboratory, and has met stringent criteria for low emissions. Every Acoufelt carpet tile meets the strict requirements for Green Label Plus certification under Indoor Air Quality Testing.
A Life Cycle Assessment is known to be the most extensive product impact report on earth and for good reason. EPDs are a summary LCA report undertaken to specific International Standards. Global GreenTag’s ISO 14025 EPDs are Green Star®, IS Rating Tool and BREEAM® International compliant. Global GreenTag’s EN 15804 EPDs are also Green Star® and IS Rating Tool compliant, as well as LEED®, BREEAM® and BREEAM International® compliant. When relevant, GreenTag also uses unique Life Cycle Benefit Indicators to explain a product’s Net Positive and Circular Economy benefits. Acoufelt’s QuietBack™ Carpet Tiles, WoodBeQuiet™ Planks and FilaSorb™ Panels have received certification under the International Standard. Download each EPD certificate in the below.

The Living Future Institute Australia (LFIA) is part of a global movement that is revolutionising the built environment. As an Affiliate of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), the LFIA is guiding the Australian industry towards regenerative design through programs such as the Living Building Challenge® (LBC) and Declare®. Through this membership and our Declare product certifications, Acoufelt is proudly committed to growing knowledge and engaging in programs that are redefining the green building movement.

The vision of the Green Building Council Australia’s (‘GBCA’) Responsible Products Framework is to drive the supply chain to deliver transparent, healthy, low-impact, and net zero carbon products that are part of a circular economy. The Framework is currently used to recognise initiatives that a product or manufacturer can comply with for the purposes of contributing to a Green Star certification. The United States Green Building Council (‘USGBC’) LEED framework is a voluntary certification program that aims to keep the ‘built environment’ honest and accountable through certifying against robust, transparent and trustworthy evidence-based standards. USGBC’s vision is that ‘buildings and communities will regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation’. BREEAM third-party standard provides a framework to deliver high performing and sustainable built assets that support commercial success whilst also creative positive environmental and social impact. BREEAM has helped improve asset performance at every stage, from design through construction, to use and refurbishment. Acoufelt has always been conscious of the way we manufacture products, ensuring they are comprised of components that are safe for humans and the planet, and include as much recycled content as possible. In mid-2022, I pivoted from Product Development and undertook a global role as ‘Material & Sustainability Manager’, to ramp up the company’s focus on sustainability for the future. Working on sustainability in our material manufacturing is a natural progression for me, as not only do I relish in creating beautiful and functional products, but I also feel the calling to advocate for our planet.
As a business, we can’t deny that the built environment is a major culprit of global emissions. To play our part in tackling climate change, we have re-thought our approach to what a ‘sustainable’ product or practice is, and it all starts with knowing how our materials and operational practices affect the planet and its people.
Our wish-list of initiatives is continually growing, and I am excited to share our journey towards reducing our impact alongside developing beautiful and functional acoustic products for interiors.
