Award-winning architecture firm ‘BVN Architecture‘ are quietly confident in their design for the new building at the prestigious MLC School in Sydney’s inner west. Thoughtful design was a requisite for creating the flexible and productive learning environment expected at one of Sydney’s leading schools, and acoustics was high on the agenda.
“It is hard to educate fearless thinkers when they can’t hear what’s being taught, or study in a peaceful environment”, says Gregory McGirr, Facilities Manager at MLC School.
MLC Burwood is an independent school offering preschool to Year 12 education for girls. It is a highly prestigious educational institution based in Sydney’s inner west, offering an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme as an alternative to the NSW Higher School Certificate for young women in their final two years at school. Setting high expectations on educational outcomes for its students, the new building had to meet the highest acoustic standards.
“The Acoufelt acoustic carpet tile featuring QuietBack™ was an obvious solution for us”, says McGirr. “We were going to use carpet anyway, so the benefit of the acoustic performance was at a marginal cost for such a significant improvement to the space”.
BVN Architecture is an award-winning Australian-based architectural firm that boasts a global presence, with commercial projects spanning from New York to London. In this local NSW project, BVN Architecture specified the Acoufelt carpet tile from the ‘Palette’ collection. Carpet tiles within the Palette collection are made from 100% solution dyed nylon, and are available in a 500mm x 500mm square format. Featuring QuietBack™, this carpet tile achieves an acoustic NRC rating of 0.40. Available in twenty-four beautiful colourways, Palette carpet tiles are designed specifically to provide architects and designers with an artist’s palette of vibrant colours, perfect for design that requires eye-catching aesthetics.
Colourways “Lias” and “Shale” were selected for the MLC school installation; the dark and durable “Lias” for its gentle patina, and “Shadow” for its earthy grey tones reminiscent of the northern European rock strata “Shale” from which it takes its name. The Palette collection of carpet tiles delivers superior acoustic performance in contrast to that of similar floor coverings, allowing spaces to be designed for the ears as well as the eyes.
Acoufelt™ is all about Making Quiet™ for working, learning and living spaces. World class thought leadership drives the Acoufelt Acoustic FWC™ philosophy of delivering acoustic materials suitable for all three surfaces; Floor, Wall and Ceiling. Our customer centric innovative solutions eliminate compromise, allowing you to design for the ears as well as the eyes.
