Acoustic Panels

Acoufelt acoustic panels are made from post-consumer plastic beverage bottles out of landfills and oceans. Every square foot of panel contains the regenerated fibers made from approximately 6.6 (20 oz) recycled bottles.

The discarded soda and drinking bottles are cleaned and cut into flakes before being melted and extruded into fibers of natural white color.

The regenerated fibers are clean and odorless like virgin fibers.

The regenerated fibers are then integrated into the carded multi layerweb construction and thermo bonding process to create new material for acoustic panels.

With a unique production process, Acoufelt acoustic panels can be recycled again at the end of their useful life.

Acoufelt panels receive Indoor Advantage Gold certification for Indoor Air Quality. The Indoor Advantage and Indoor Advantage Gold standard aligns with both ANSI/BIFMA M7 and X7.1, and CA 01350. It is recognized by the EPA and GSA, and qualifies for many building rating systems, including LEED v4, BREEAM, WELL Building and Living Building Challenge.

Acoufelt panels achieve Indoor Advantage Gold certification through meeting the high standard for CDPH compliance. Product compliance is determined by comparing the calculated emission concentration or emission factor to the applicable VOC emission criteria.

Purchasers and consumers can be assured that products labelled with the SCS certification marks are consistently meeting the performance requirements of this standard.

Declare Certification Through Living Future Institute of Australia

Acoustic Panels and Carpet Tiles

Living Future Institute of Australia’s (LFIA) DECLARE program is a certification scheme for promoting transparency in building and product materials. DECLARE certification is provided to products that do not contain materials or chemicals from the ‘Red List’- the worst class ingredients in the building industry. These chemicals:

  • Pollute the environment
  • Bioaccumulate up the food chain until their reach toxic concentrations
  • Harm construction and factory workers

A Declare label answers three questions:

  1. Where does a product come from?
  2. What is it made of?
  3. Where does it go at the end of its life?

Under the DECLARE certification scheme, Acoufelt carpet tiles and panels both receive “LCB Red List Free” declaration through both material component declaration and VOC ratings meeting the high standard for CDPH Compliance. Achieving LCB Red List Free declaration is the highest declaration a product can achieve under the Declare certification scheme.

Useful definitions under the DECLARE program:

A “Red list Free” declaration means product ingredients are 100% disclosed to 100 ppm and do not contain any ‘Red List’ chemicals. They have been shown to meet the Materials Petal requirements of the Living Building Challenge and, if applicable, emissions testing criteria for the Health + Happiness Petal.

“Red List” represent a collection of ‘worst-in-class’ building materials, chemicals, and elements known to pose serious risks to human health and the greater ecosystem that the Institute believes should be phased out of production due to health/toxicity concerns.

“Volatile Organic Compounds” (VOC’s) are any volatile compounds of carbon, excluding methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, carbonic acid, metallic carbides or carbonates, ammonium carbonate, including all those on the SCAQMD Group II Exempt list. VOC’s that appear on the SCAQMD Group I Exempt List do not appear on the LBC Red List.

LEED Program Through USGBC

Made from a minimum of 60% recycled content, Acoufelt’s acoustic products exceed the criteria set by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) which recognizes contributions made to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Therefore, users of Acoufelt products can earn environmental points from LEED for their building projects.

Sustainable textile furnishing materials are recognized as contributing to green building practices. ECONYL-based carpet tiles and recycled PET-based panels are eligible for LEED points under worldwide standards governing eco-friendly buildings. This means you can specify or design with performance-driven acoustic carpet tiles and panels, whilst simultaneously supplying clients with LEED’s sustainable solutions and green building certification.

Acoufelt’s commitment toward environmental sustainability is reflected in its manufacturing processes meeting ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, its use of reclaimed materials in the product design process, and ensuring products are 100% recyclable at the end of their useful life. Acoufelt QuietBack™ carpet tiles are made from more than 85% recycled content, and Acoufelt PVC carpet tiles are made from more than 50% ECONYL® regenerated nylon fibers. The ECONYL® Regeneration System follows the following process:

Rescue

The ECONYL® Regeneration System starts with rescuing waste, like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic from landfills and oceans all over the world. The waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover the maximum amount of nylon as possible.

Regenerate

Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. This means ECONYL® regenerated nylon has the exact same properties as virgin nylon.

Remake

ECONYL® regenerated nylon is processed into carpet yarn and textile yarn

Reimagine

Manufacturers, like Acoufelt, use regenerated nylon to create brand new products. The ECONYL® products then have the potential to be recycled infinitely, without losing quality. Once ECONYL® products reach the end of their useful life, they can re-enter the Regeneration System for rescue.

CRI: Green Label

CRI’s Green Label program tests carpet, cushions and adhesives to help specifiers identify products with very low emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The CRI Green Label Plus logo indicates a product has been tested and certified by an independent laboratory and has met stringent criteria for low emissions. The test methodology has been developed in cooperation with the US EPA and has been adopted by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) as D5116 – Standard Guide for Small-Scale Environmental Chamber Determinations of Organic Emission from Indoor Materials/Products.

Acoufelt’s QuietBack™ and PVC carpet tiles both meet the requirements for Green Label Plus certification under Indoor Air Quality Testing. This means that architects, builders, specifiers and facility managers have the assurance that all Acoufelt carpet products meet the most stringent criteria for low chemical emissions.
